To covet means to want ardently (esp., something that another person has); long for with envy. In your bible James 4:5 says "do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?" In other words we all have to keep ourselves in check by turning away from the things that might cause us to be envious of others and their belongings. Sometimes we can take second best and make the best of it or modify it into better than best.
When we use our own imagination we become the future with a better way. Deuteronomy 5:21 gives in detail what not to covet, and James 3:16 pretty much says envying brings misfortune into your life. Galatians 5:26 says not to provoke one another with desirous vanity causing envy. Ecclesiastes 4:4 says causing envy or being envious brings vanity and vexation of spirit. And Luke 12:22-23 says the life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Meat meaning substance or skill, raiment meaning apparel or clothing, all summed up there's more to life than meets the eye. Desiring a relationship with God above all else should be a clue, want what God wants, do what He wants, and live as though He's right next to you. God gave you something unique, your mind, use it wisely.
